4 arrested for stealing luggage and valuables of tourists in Mawblei

Taking swift action, the Special Party of the Madanrting police station on Monday apprehended four persons for allegedly stealing luggage and valuables from a tourist’s vehicle in Mawblei.
The incident took place on June 22 at around 8 pm when Jay Nand Kishore Joshi and his family, along with another newlywed couple from Mumbai, parked their Innova near the Mahindra Showroom and went to dinner at the By the Way restaurant.
Upon their return, they discovered that someone had broken the window glass of the car and stolen their luggage containing cash worth Rs 50,000 and an iPhone 13.
A case was registered at the Madanrting Police Station.
The Madanrting Special Party acted quickly and arrested four individuals from Mawblei Block B on June 23 evening, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said in a statement.
The accused persons have been identified as Chaphrang Nangkiew Sutnga, 24, of Mawblei, Wanjop Kharumnuid, 23, of Laitkor Nonglum, Albertstar Kharhujon, 22, of Umphyrnai and Michael Nongrum, 45, of Demthring Block A.
The SP said that the police recovered all the stolen items, including the cash and iPhone 13, from the accused persons.
