    Altogether 34 big trees that were uprooted by Cyclone Remal were removed by forest personnel on Wednesday.

    Severe cyclonic storm “Remal” has left a trail of destruction behind, throwing normal life out of gear in Guwahati city. The cyclone brought heavy rains, flooded streets, uprooted trees and knocked down electric poles in various parts of the city.

    A 20-year-old youth Mintu Talukdar died at Nabajyoti Nagar in the Panjabari area of the city after a tree fell on their house on Tuesday night.

    Heavy rainfall and cyclonic storm, big trees were uprooted and fell on roadsides blocking all roads for traffic movement till Tuesday evening. Many buildings and other structures also collapsed due to the felling of trees. Due to the uprooting of electrical poles, the power supply has been disrupted in many parts of the city.

    A team of forest personnel led by Guwahati ranger Pranjal Baruah conducted a special drive to remove all trees uprooted due to the cyclone and make free the roads for vehicular traffic.

    The operation was conducted in the presence of personnel from SDRF, DDMA, GMC, City Police, APDCL, revenue circle officers and residents.

    A total of 34 trees were removed from roadside at Khanamukh, Fatashil, Kalapahar, Narengi, Chandrapur, Hengerabari, Panjabari, Narkasur Hills, Bhangagarh, Panikhaiti, Amching Jorabat and Shilpagram, Khanapara, VIP Road, Chandrapur, Kalapahar, Dispur Secretariat Complex, Jyotikuchi, Rihabari, Navajyoti Nagar, Cotton College Road to clear the road for vehicular traffic.

    Six trees were removed from the roadside in different areas of the city on Monday.

    According to the official sources, 4 trees were uprooted in different areas under Fatasil Forest Beat, 5 in Khanamukh Beat, 8 in Green Beat, 8 in Kalapahar, 2 in Hengrabari, 2 in Panjabari Beat and 5 trees were uprooted in Chandrapur forest beat.
