Three vehicle lifters were arrested after three stolen two-wheelers were recovered from a jungle in Demthring area, West Jaintia Hills on Friday morning.

Acting on credible intelligence inputs, the special cell of Jowai DEF under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Jason Myrom conducted a targeted operation in the Demthring area and successfully intercepted an Alto K10 Car containing parts of motor vehicles. The spot interrogation of the occupants led to the recovery of three stolen Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR two-wheelers (bearing registration numbers ML05V 4471, ML05Y 5008 and ML05AC 0799) kept hidden in the jungle nearby, district police chief Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said.

The three arrested have been identified as Jopparson Rabon(24), resident of Thangrain, Meshanki Langstang(22) of Thangrain and Paulme Sungoh (21) from Wahnangbah lawmusiang.

Rabon was found driving the Alto K10 vehicle without a registration number plate while Langstang was travelling as a co-passenger in the same Alto K10 and Sungoh was located in the jungle area near Demthring, where the stolen two-wheeler vehicles were discovered to be concealed.

Upon preliminary interrogation, the apprehended individuals admitted to stealing the vehicles from the Laban and Jhalupara areas of Shillong, the SP said.

He said the stolen vehicles and the Alto K10 used in the commission of the crime have been seized and brought to the Jowai Police Station for further investigation.

The accused persons have been sent for medical examination and further legal action is underway.

“Jowai DEF Police remains committed to upholding law and order and ensuring the safety of public property through proactive and timely enforcement actions,” Dhanoa said.
