  • 3 cylinders exploded as fire breaks out in an old saw mill in Shillong

    A fire broke out in the old saw mill at Oxford Hills destroying houses of eight families on Saturday evening.

    According to the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger, the fire broke out in the old saw mill at around 4.50 pm. It is also a disputed land between Gopal Gupta and Pawan Bawri.

    Nongtnger said during enquiry, it is learnt that the fire started from one store room in the still fabrication where MCB board is fixed.

    He said there are eight family members staying in the compound. All the houses were completely gutted in the fire. However, no loss of life or injury was reported, he added.

    During the incident, there was also explosion of three cylinders. “The reason for fire incident was due to short circuit,” Nongtnger said.

    The SP further informed that the fire has been controlled with the help of 8 fire tenders and due to the timely response; the fire was stopped from spreading to adjoining houses.
