SHILLONG: Three persons were arrested on Thursday in connection with the recent holding of a dorbar meeting at Shella village in East Khasi Hills District, which was in violation of a Court order.

When contacted, district police chief, Claudia A Lyngwa has confirmed that police have picked up at least three persons.

Refusing to disclose their identities, Lyngwa said that they will be produced before the court.

However sources informed that two of the three persons arrested include Wantei Kupar Swett and Tobias Tiewdop.

Wantei and Tobias had defied the order passed by the Court of LW Phira presiding officer, Subordinate District Council Court, Shillong on April 26, which had restrained them from holding any meeting on April 29, at Shella village for electing new office bearers.

It may be mentioned here, some police personnel were also injured when they were attacked by villagers while trying to stop the meeting held at a dorbar hall located at Jasir in Shella on April 29.
