SHILLONG: Three persons were arrested along with 298.16 grams of heroin from the city.

Terming the incident as unprecedented, district police chief Claudia A Lyngwa said the anti narcotic task force (ANTF) team of East Khasi Hills District and Mawngap police on Tuesday recovered 298.16 grms of herion from a bag which was abandoned on the roadside and in a tea stall at Pomlum, 7th Mile, Upper Shillong.

She said it happened due to the prompt placement of Nakas by ANTF team on receiving reliable inputs about potential drug deal in 7th Mile area.

Police were able to resolve the mystery of abandoned heroin through a single clue of local taxi registration number ML05-G-7902 which was used to bring consignment of drugs to Pomlum.

After continuous search of nearly 48 hours the driver of taxi was caught and he has been identified as Kitborlang Ryntathiang (27) of Lumparing, Kynjatphutbol.

Ryntathiang then led the team to a middleman Rishan Pyngrope (29) of Lumparing, Kynjatphutbol who then led to the key supplier Rinku Saikia (25) alias Roy alias Babu of Nongrim Hills, Shillong.

“Within 60 hours police were able to connect all the dots and all three accused have been arrested and vehicle used in commitment of crime has been seized,” the SP said. A case has been registered in Mawngap PS case number 27(09)2019 U/S 21(C) NDPS Act.

In the two seizures made, 111 grams of heroin was seized from the tea stall and 187 grms from the roadside near tea stall.

Meanwhile, the SP expressed appreciation on the work done by Mawngap PS and ANTF for successful investigation which led to busting up of another drug chain network operating in Shillong.

She said investigation is still on and further linkages of this drug chain are being looked into.
