28 zonal officers deployed in West Jaintia Hills to tackle monsoon emergencies

Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills, Abhinav Kumar Singh, on Saturday announced a comprehensive monsoon preparedness plan amid minor weather-related incidents reported across the district.
Speaking to the media, Singh confirmed that incidents such as tree falls and snapping of electrical lines were recorded but assured that the situation remains under control.
“As per the situation report since yesterday and even today, there have been minor incidents. However, we are fully prepared. All departments are in position, and station leave has been cancelled for all officials, including BDOs,” Singh stated.
In a significant administrative move, the district has been divided into 28 operational zones, each overseen by a designated zonal officer, shifting from earlier reliance on just four BDOs for disaster response.
“The idea is to decentralise and ensure quicker coordination during emergencies. These zonal officers are monitoring the situation round the clock,” he added.
With rains showing signs of decline, the administration is now focusing on monitoring river levels to prevent flooding in low-lying agricultural areas. Singh assured that coordination among departments is being maintained to mobilise resources promptly should the situation escalate.
