    A total of 28 candidates filed their nomination papers on Friday for the upcoming Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) elections, scheduled to be held on February 21.

    Candidates from the Indian National Congress (INC), United Democratic Party (UDP), National People’s Party (NPP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Independent candidates have entered the electoral fray.

    The Indian National Congress has fielded nine candidates: Banikas Laban (12-Barato Mukroh), Saron Pasweth (19-Jowai South), Katbanbiang Lamare (7-Nartiang Wahiajer), J Trelang Suchiang (16-Shangpung), Wellpard Suchiang (15-Raliang), Bitos Sari (5-Mukhla Ummulong), Madon Rymbai (4-Amwi Khliehtyrshi), Jona Rynjah (6-Moodymmai Nongkroh), and Pynbiangmi Laloo (14-Mowkaiaw).

    The United Democratic Party has four candidates: Marki Mulieh (18-Jowai North), Meiowan Pasi (17-Nangbah Mihmyntdu), Eleazer C Dkhar (11-Shilliang Myntang), and Wining Garland Sungoh (14-Mowkaiaw).

    The National People’s Party has the highest number of candidates with 11 nominees: Tellme Phawa (17-Nangbah Mihmyntdu), Dikylsingh Phawa (19-Jowai South), Aiborlang Shadap (12-Barato Mukroh), Pheinshwa Nanglein (10-Mynsngat Khanduli), Mihnyngkong Sutnga (16-Shangpung), Bison Roy Iano (15-Raliang), Eveningstar Teron (9-Mynso Nongjngi), Lakhon Dkhar (4-Amwi Khliehtyrshi), Ailad Bhoi (5-Mukhla Ummulong), Remdorkupar Lyngdoh (13-Saphai Sahsniang), and Warmanship Shadap (14-Mowkaiaw).

    The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Pil Khyriem (4-Amwi Khliehtyrshi).

    Four independent candidates have also filed their nominations: Moonlight Pariat (19-Jowai South), Brightstar Chyrmang (17-Nangbah Mihmyntdu), Carebasius Pasi (9-Mynso Nongjngi), and Heiboklang Suting (4-Amwi Khliehtyrshi).

    With nominations filed, the stage is set for a keenly contested battle across multiple constituencies in the upcoming elections.
