    In swift action, East Khasi Hills police arrested 27 people who killed one youth and attacked eight others in Passang area near Syntung village, Mawkynrew block on Sunday.

    According to police, on the evening of Sunday at around 8:00 pm information was received that one khasi boy has been assaulted badly by some unknown person(s) at Passang area of Mawkynrew.

    Accordingly, a Police Team was sent immediately to enquire the matter.

    During enquiry it was learnt that a group of boys (9 in total) had gone to Syntung for a picnic and on their way back they were waylaid by the villagers near Passang area and were assaulted by them.

    3 (Three) boys were grievously injured, while the other 6 (Six) boys managed to escape into the jungle nearby.

    The Police Team after being reinforced, managed to rescue the other 6 (Six) boys as well as the injured boys by the early morning hours of 9th March, 2020.

    However, 1 (One) of the injured boy(s) succumbed to his injured before reaching Civil Hospital, Shillong.

    On the evening of Monday, a Police Team contingent was sent to the area to arrest the culprits involved in the incident. The operation was conducted successfully and a total of 27 (Twenty Seven) suspects were arrested.

    Two of the suspect were later verified to be a juvenile and a senior citizen respectively and were released at the spot. Case has been registered under relevant section of the law and all efforts are being made to nab the other culprits involved in this heinous crime.

    Public are requested not to spread false rumour regarding the incident.
