Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills and Chairman of the District Selection Committee (DSC), Abhinav Kumar Singh, has dismissed recent claims that over 560 government posts are vacant under the DSC, calling the figure “inflated and misleading.”

“The 560 figure being circulated includes posts outside the DSC’s scope—such as teaching staff, promotional posts, muster roll positions, and roles under the MPSC,” Singh clarified during a press briefing on Saturday.

He confirmed that the actual number of vacancies to be filled through the DSC stands at 255, based on verified data submitted by various departments following official meetings held on May 19 and May 26.

    The 255 confirmed vacancies include:

    • 21 Lower Division Assistants (LDAs)
    • 83 Grade III & IV positions
    • Additional departmental vacancies vetted for recruitment.

Singh also shared updates on recent recruitments: 49 LDAs and 4 boatmen have already been appointed, and interviews are scheduled in the next two weeks for 16 more posts, including sericulture demonstrators, gram sevaks, and a gram sevika.

“We are finalising the advertisement schedule and will release it within two days. Written exams, typing tests, and interviews will commence from June, and our goal is to complete the entire recruitment by September or November,” Singh added.
