  • 24 more die of COVID-19 in Meghalaya, death toll crosses 600-mark

    The death count in the state due to COVID-19 crossed the 600-mark after 24 persons succumbed to the viral infection on Wednesday.

    According to the Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War, 13 deaths were reported in East Khasi Hills district, 2 in East Jaintia Hills district and 1 in Ri Bhoi district.

    The state has also recorded 532 new COVID-19 cases and with this, the total number of active cases stands at 6,403.

    Dr War said the new cases include 201 in East Khasi Hills, 90 West Garo Hills, 64 South West Garo Hills, 44 Ri Bhoi 38 West Khasi hills, 26 South Garo Hills, 16 West Jaintia Hills, 16 North Garo Hills, 15 South West Khasi Hills, 14 East Garo Hills and 8 East Jaintia Hills.

    He also informed that as many as 711 patients have also recovered from the viral infection during the past 24 hours.

    Of these, 320 from East Khasi Hills, 148 Ri Bhoi, 65 South Garo Hills, 43 East Jaintia Hills, 39 West Jaintia Hills, 27 South West Khasi Hills, 20 West Garo Hills, 18 West Khasi Hills, 14 South West Garo Hills, 11 North Garo Hills and 6 East Garo Hills.

    So far, the state has detected a total of 36,597 COVID-19 cases out of which 6,403 are active cases, 29,578 recovered and 616 deaths.

    With 2,863 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong, is the worst affected district in the state, followed by Ri Bhoi with 810 cases.

    There are 683 cases in West Garo Hills, 523 West Jaintia Hills, 443 South West Garo Hills, 303 South West Khasi Hills, 194 East Jaintia Hills, 192 West Khasi Hills, 162 North Garo Hills, 143 East Garo Hills and 87 South Garo Hills.
