200 computers distributed to schools in first phase of digital education drive

In a major step towards promoting digital inclusion in education, 200 computers were distributed to 14 schools in West Jaintia Hills District under the first phase of a digital education initiative.
The programme was organised by the office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills, under the Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY), funded by the District Mineral Foundation (DMF). The initiative targets both secondary and higher secondary schools across the district.
Jowai MLA and Chairman of MUDA, Wailadmiki Shylla, formally handed over the computers to representatives of the beneficiary schools during a programme held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Jowai.
Speaking on the occasion, Shylla emphasised the importance of digital literacy in the modern world. He expressed confidence that the Deputy Commissioner’s initiative would significantly improve the quality of education and better equip students for a technology-driven future. He also thanked the Deputy Commissioner for his leadership in advancing educational standards in the district and urged teachers to voice any challenges they face, particularly in relation to infrastructure. He assured them of continued support.
Deputy Commissioner Abhinav Kumar Singh, IAS, announced that a certification course provided by Microsoft will be introduced in the second phase of the initiative, in which one teacher from each school will be trained.
