Two siblings, who are also members of the Tarari Choir, were buried alive in a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall in West Khasi Hills District on Saturday morning.

The incident took place at Pyndengrei Dommawlein located in Nongstoin at around 3.30 am. The landslide forced its way inside the house while the two siblings were sleeping.

The deceased victims have been identified as Cafinia Nongsiej (15), who is a class X student of ST Peter and Maya Nongsiej (10). Both are daughters of Alexander Lyngdoh Nonglait and Beautiful Nongseij of Mawlangniang in Rambrai.

The two girls were staying in a rented house Pyndengrei Dommawlein. The deceased girls are also members of the Tarari Choir.

Meanwhile, West Khasi Hills police have asked people in the area to avoid using the road from Nongdien to Maiawban and District Council towards St Joseph hospital in view of the flood and strong water currents.
