  • 2 killed & six houses damaged due to numerous landslides under Mawkynrew Block

    Due to incessant heavy downpour in Mawkynrew Community & Rural Development  Block under East Khasi Hills District, two persons lost their precious and six houses and two houses were damaged due to landslides in four different location on Monday.

    A major landslide occurred at Mawlat Village where two persons lost their lives during the incident when they were passing through the area where the landslide occurred.

    The team from O/o BDO, PWD, DM&HO were deputed for immediate response. The deceased persons were identified as   (Late) Rohit Kshiar (14 yrs) of Mawlat Village and (Late) Dilibon Tangsang (35yrs) of Mawkria Village.

    In another Landslide in Umblai Village two houses and two shops were reported damaged at Umblai Village due to landslide. The houses belong to (1) Kro Kshiar – fully damaged, (2) Phrangki Khongjoh – partially damaged. The shops of Sngur Khongjoh and Kshonti Mary Khongjoh were also affected by landslides.

    Landslide at Thangbnai-Mawlyngot: The road was damaged due to a landslide and one vehicle was washed away. No casualty was reported and PWD was deputed for clearing the road. Clearing of the road is in progress

    Another Landslide at Lyngshing village where 4 (four) houses were reported damaged. The houses belong to (1). Smti. Jamin Surong. (2). Judia Nongrum (3). Kastina Nongrum (4) Kyrkhu Longshiang and (5) Hame Bina. Hame Bina suffered minor injury during the landslide incident which occurred at his house.

    Officials rushed to the spot for assessment of damage. Gratuitous Relief in the form of foodgrains were handed.
