A lower court on Wednesday remanded two arrested members of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) in Ichamati and Mawlai Mawroh murder cases to seven days and  twelve days police custody respectively.

Gary Mawlieh, who was arrested in connection with the Mawlai Mawroh murder case, has been remanded to 12 days  police custody while Cleanstar Shabong, who was arrested in the Ichamati murder cases, has been remanded to 7 days police custody, a police officer informed here.

He said more arrest will be made in the coming days.

Altogether, four KSU members have been arrested so far in regards to the tripple murder cases in Ichamati and Mawlai Mawroh.

Speaking to reporters outside the Court premises, KSU general secretary Donald V Thabah said, “KSU members are being arrested in any incident.

It has happened in the past and it is still continuing till today. We can understand that the objective of the government to detain members of the KSU is to deter them from going forward with their activities for development and welfare of the Khasi people but our message to the Government is that do what you do, arrest us, detain us, beat us up also that will not deter us from going forward with our commitment and activities for safeguarding the rights of the Khasi people.”

He said, “The killing of Lurshai Hynniewta in Ichamati, the police did made large number of arrest and large number of people have been summoned but however nobody appears before the Court or police and most of them have disappeared and police are not arresting them or put them behind bars.”

Asked, Thabah said, “We are yet to decide but we are issuing a strong warning to the Government that if it keeps on arresting and detaining our members we will be compelled to take action.”
