    The seminar commemorating the 183rd anniversary of Thomas Jones’ arrival in Khasi land was convened at Sngap Sing Syiem College, Mawkyrwat, organized by the South Khasi Hills unit of the Khasi Authors’ Society (KAS). The event, held under the auspices of KAS, saw the esteemed presence of Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar as the chief guest, alongside leaders from the KAS central body and local dignitaries well-versed in the legacy of Thomas Jones. The chief guest underscored the importance of lobbying for the inclusion of the Khasi language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

    Rev. GPL Kadew delivered an enlightening discourse on Thomas Jones’ significant contributions to Khasi society, emphasizing his role in advancing education and socio-economic empowerment among the Khasi people. Meanwhile, Rev. Ioannis War Pakma expounded upon the Khasi language as a reflection of community identity, portraying it as a cultural mirror. The local cultural troupe, Iong Lajong, paid homage to Rev. Thomas Jones with a soulful performance.

    During the subsequent session, Rev. GPL Kadew delved deeper into Thomas Jones’ life, highlighting his departure from conventional missionary duties to focus on uplifting the Khasi populace. Rev. Ioannis War Pakma delved into the metaphorical aspects of the golden age, exploring themes of human virtue and salvation in life, drawing references from various eminent authors. The session culminated in a stimulating exchange of ideas, featuring engaging questions and insights from attending scholars.
