    Eighteen more persons have succumbed to COVID-19 on Friday taking the death toll in the state to 643.

    According to the Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War, 9 deaths were reported in East Khasi Hills district, 2 West Garo Hills district and 1 each in Ri Bhoi district and South West Garo Hills district. 

    The state has also recorded 584 new COVID-19 cases and with this, the total number of active cases stands at 6,110.

    Dr War said the new cases include 240 in East Khasi Hills, 111 West Jaintia Hills, 55 West Garo Hills, 43 Ri Bhoi, 42 East Jaintia Hills, 27 South West Khasi Hills, 21 West Khasi Hills, 16 South West Garo Hills, 13 East Garo Hills, 8 North Garo Hills and 8 South Garo Hills.

    He also informed that as many as 808 patients have also recovered from the viral infection during the past 24 hours.

    Of these, 433 are from East Khasi Hills, 88 South West Garo Hills, 85 West Garo Hills, 69 Ri Bhoi, 41 East Jaintia Hills, 29 West Jaintia Hills, 22 West Khasi Hills, 19 East Garo Hills, 15 South Garo Hills and 7 North Garo Hills.

    So far, the state has detected a total of 37,733 COVID-19 cases out of which 6,110 are active cases, 30,980 recovered and 643 deaths.

    With 2,610 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong, is the worst affected district in the state, followed by West Garo Hills with 711 cases and Ri Bhoi with 703 cases.

    There are 629 West Jaintia Hills, 360 South West Garo Hills, 305 South West Khasi Hills, 191 East Jaintia Hills, 193 West Khasi Hills, 189 North Garo Hills, 125 East Garo Hills and 94 South Garo Hills.
