Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla on Friday assured that concrete steps are being taken to address the backlog of 151 vacant government posts under the District Selection Committee (DSC) in West Jaiñtia Hills. This assurance follows a one-month deadline issued by the Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU), which has demanded immediate action on long-pending recruitment processes.

“I had a detailed and productive meeting with the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaiñtia Hills, Abhinav Kumar Singh, who is also the Chairman of the DSC, along with the DSC Secretary, to discuss the status of the ongoing recruitment process,” said Shylla. “I had directed the Deputy Commissioner to work closely with all government departments to compile updated data on existing vacancies and to expedite all pending recruitment matters.”

The JSU, in its recent statement, criticised the delay in conducting examinations for posts advertised nearly four years ago—particularly the 92 Grade IV posts advertised on November 19, 2021. Shylla informed that the written exam for these posts is scheduled to be conducted by September 2025.

Regarding the Lower Division Assistant (LDA) posts advertised in 2021, Shylla stated that out of the 54 posts announced, 49 candidates cleared the typing test. While appointment orders for most have already been issued, those under the Deputy Commissioner’s office are still pending. “I had assured that appointment letters for the remaining LDA posts in the DC’s office will be issued on Monday,” he said, adding that five posts remain unfilled due to a shortage of qualified candidates.

For the Lady Supervisor post advertised in 2017, Shylla noted that the matter is still pending in court due to complications with the reservation roster system. “I had taken up the issue and recommended that the DSC and the Social Welfare Department hold a joint discussion to resolve the matter,” he added.

Shylla also gave an update on the 2020 recruitment for 14 posts of Sericulture Demonstrator, 4 posts of Gram Sevak, and 1 post of Gram Sevika. He confirmed that the written exams have already been conducted, results will be declared next week, and all appointments and postings will be completed by July 2025.

Additional vacancies still in the pipeline include:

    • 34 LDA posts advertised in January 2025,
    • 2 Weaving Demonstrator posts advertised in December 2024,
    • 1 Male Supervisor, 3 Gram Sevak, 2 Gram Sevika, 1 Copyist, and 12 more LDA posts,
    • Another 4 Gram Sevak posts for which advertisements are yet to be floated.

“I had taken the concerns of the youth and job aspirants seriously. We are committed to moving this process forward without unnecessary delays. All recruitment will be done in a transparent and time-bound manner,” Shylla assured.

The JSU has warned of possible agitation if the DSC fails to act within the deadline it has set, but Shylla’s intervention has brought renewed hope that long-pending vacancies may soon be filled.
