145 rank holders, five Ph.Ds honoured at St. Anthony’s College convocation

The Convocation Ceremony of St. Anthony’s College held on August 2, was marked by a celebration of academic excellence and cultural splendour, with the institution honouring 145 rank holders and five Ph.D. awardees — the highest in its history.
The programme opened with a colourful procession of the Chief Guest, faculty heads, rank holders, and doctoral awardees. The march featured a fusion of cultural rhythms — the Ongrima beat of the Garos blending with the Khasi Shadwait — symbolising the harmony of tradition and learning that defines the College.
Paul Lyngdoh, Minister of Arts & Culture, Social Welfare, and Tourism, and an alumnus of the English Department (Class of 1993), graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his address, he recalled fond memories of his student days and urged graduates to carry forward the values of humility, empathy, and curiosity.
Among the achievers, Md. Rezaul Islam of Political Science was recognised for his all-round excellence and named Student of the Year.
A major highlight was the launch of the Goodness Award – Where Values Meet Leadership, instituted by the Department of Value Education. The first recipient, Elizabeth Hazel Lyndem, was honoured for her empathy, humility, and inclusive leadership as Student Coordinator, reinforcing the College’s belief that education must nurture both excellence and character.
The College also unveiled its two flagship publications — the annual magazine Mosaic and the newsletter The Anthonian Chronicles — reflecting the vibrant academic, cultural, and co-curricular life of the institution.
Departments that secured the highest ranks in the NEHU examinations included Commerce, Economics, Education, Mass Communication and Video Production and Media Technologies, Fishery Science, Chemistry, Geology, and Statistics. Among the dignitaries present were Dr. Sarah Kharbuli, Head of the Department of Fishery Sciences, and Dr. Aman War, Headman of Lower Lachumiere.

With its blend of cultural grandeur, academic distinction, and a renewed focus on values, this year’s convocation reaffirmed St. Anthony’s College’s legacy of shaping not only scholars and professionals but also compassionate leaders committed to service and excellence.
