    SHILLONG: As many as 14 persons were arrested by the police during an operation against drug mafia operating in Polo area here. 

    The operation was conducted by the ANTF team of the Superintendent of Police (SP), East Khasi Hills District and the staff from Pasteur Beat House on Tuesday. 

    SP Claudia A Lyngwa said in this connection 14 persons were apprehended from Polo area and thoroughly interrogated. 

    During personal search conducted upon the apprehended persons, a small amount of suspected drug (Heroin) net weight- 0.47 grams was recovered from the possession of one of the accused person Marios Pyngrope (38) resident of Lumshyiap, Langkyrding. 

    On further interrogation, the accused person Marios Pyngrope revealed to the Police Staff that he keeps his stuff in forest area across FCI godown. K9 Unit was also requisitioned to conduct search on the lead of Marios. The search of PHE Pump House at Lawmali was conducted in presence of independent witnesses and a total of 17.76 grams suspected contraband was recovered. 

    The due process laid down in NDPS Act, was followed while conducting search and seizure in presence of respectable members of the locality. 

    “Police is still probing the source of drug supply network of Marios and further arrest cannot be ruled out,” the SP said while informing that case 144(7)17 u/s 21(a) & 21(b) NDPS Act has been registered against Marios Pyngrope. 

    In a separate incident, Madanrting PS staff and ANTF team of Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills Office conducted raid during evening hours on the same day at Happy Valley after getting source information that one Luck Chakravarty is indulging into drug selling business. 

    After observing due procedure laid down in NDPS Act for search and seizure in presence of independent witnesses the ANTF team was able to recover 3 soap boxes and 4 golden tobacco tins full of suspected contraband weighing 39.95 gms of heroin. 

    A case 76(07)19 has been registered U/S 21(b) NDPS and accused have been forwarded to the court.
