1 Assam NCC Battalion cadets join National Sports Day 2025 celebrations in Guwahati

More than 150 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from various battalions under the Guwahati Group took part in the National Sports Day 2025 celebrations at the RG Baruah Sports Complex, Nehru Stadium, on Friday.

The programme, organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Assam, brought together students from several schools and colleges to mark the day with enthusiasm and a shared spirit of sportsmanship. Sports Minister Nandita Garlosa attended the event as the chief guest.

This year’s theme, “Ek Ghanta, Khel ke Maidan Main”, encouraged youth to dedicate at least one hour every day to fitness and sporting activity.

The day featured a variety of competitions, including races, team games, and traditional sporting events. A Tug of War contest became a highlight of the celebrations, where cadets of the 1 Assam NCC Battalion secured third place, winning appreciation for their teamwork and discipline.

Observed every year on August 29, National Sports Day commemorates the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. The occasion also serves to underline the importance of sports in promoting health, unity, and national pride
