USTM honours 2,000 career achievers as top recruiters line up on commendation day

The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) marked a milestone on May 31 by honouring the placement success of 2,000 graduating students during its Commendation Day, hosted by the Training & Placement Division.
This year’s celebration recognised a significant achievement: 2,000 students were recruited by top-tier organisations, including Accenture, Amul, Marico Ltd., ITC, and the Rajasthan Grameen Aajeevika Vikas Parishad (Department of Rural Development, Government of Rajasthan). The highest package offered reached an impressive ₹13.58 LPA, by Federal Bank.
The event opened with a welcome address by Nurmahmud Ali, Director of the Training & Placement Division, followed by congratulatory speeches from university leadership and distinguished guests.
Chief guest Prof. Vimal Katiyar, former Dean of Research and Development at IIT Guwahati, praised the students and remarked on the growing interest of leading companies in USTM talent.
USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque emphasized the importance of career stability and applauded the students’ hard-earned success. Also in attendance were Pro Vice-Chancellor Padma Shri Sarbeswar Sahariah and other senior faculty and staff.
The ceremony included the presentation of certificates and tokens of appreciation. Student voices added a personal note to the celebration:
“The Training and Placement Cell has always taken good care of us. This job will always be close to my heart,” said Afreen Islam.
Sauramita Paul added, “I am thankful to the training and placement cell for all their guidance to make that difference for us.”
Since its inception in 2011, USTM has placed over 2,000 students in leading companies, surpassing its benchmarks. The university—home to over 6,500 students and the first state-private university in Northeast India—continues to shape future-ready professionals through its industry-oriented education.
