    One person has been convicted for rape and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment with fine in East Garo Hills District.

    According to police, on 23/02/2017 a FIR was received against Md Rofiqul Ali that he had sexually assaulted one female (name withheld). Police registered a case under Williamnagar Women P.S case No. 03(02)2017 U/S 376/354 IPC and the case was thoroughly investigated.

    The accused was arrested and forwarded to judicial custody. WPSI Nitu I. Sangma, O/C of Williamnagar Women P.s framed an airtight case against him and charge sheeted the case vide CS No. 02/2017 Dt. 24/05/2017.

    On 29/06/22 the District and Session Judge, East Garo Hills, Williamnagar, M. Skhemlon after finding sufficient evidence against the accused, convicted him 7(seven) years of Rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs.1,500/- (Rupees fifteen hundred) for the offence punishable under section 376 IPC and 1 (one) year Simple
    Imprisonment and fine of Rs. 500/- (Rupees five hundred) under section 354 of
    IPC.
