Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury to head Bhupen Hazarika Creativity Centre at Royal Global University

In a powerful confluence of intellect, culture, and emotion, The Assam Royal Global University has announced the appointment of Prof. (Dr.) Amarjyoti Choudhury as Emeritus Professor and Chair of its newly launched Dr Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Creativity. The announcement marks a significant milestone in the lead-up to Bhupen Hazarika’s centenary celebrations.
Renowned as a scientist, poet, philosopher, and public intellectual, Prof. Choudhury brings a rare multidimensional brilliance to the role. At the inauguration ceremony, he recited “Eta Gaan Xex Hol”, a moving tribute to Bhupen Hazarika, which left a profound impact on the audience.
“I am humbled and inspired to lead a Centre that bears the name of one of our greatest cultural voices,” Prof. Choudhury said. “To awaken creativity in all its forms and make education speak the language of the heart—that is our calling now.”
The event drew voices of support from across the cultural and academic spectrum. Writer and former Assam Tribune Editor PJ Baruah called the appointment “momentous,” stating that the Centre would serve as a vibrant crucible for creativity across disciplines—melding music, art, science, literature, social philosophy, and sustainability.
Dr. AK Pansari, Chancellor of Royal Global University, praised the appointment, saying: “Prof. Choudhury stands tall among the rare minds who seamlessly bridge science, literature, and the arts. His leadership is a profound moment for both the university and Assam’s cultural landscape.”
Prof. Alak Kumar Buragohain, Chairperson (Academic), said the Centre reaffirms the university’s commitment to liberal arts education “rooted in society and elevated by imagination and critical thinking.” He emphasized its role as a hub for interdisciplinary exploration inspired by the legacy of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.

Adding a lyrical flourish to the occasion, music legend Lou Majaw noted, “What a combination—Dr. Amarjyoti Choudhury and Bhupen Hazarika. One sang with the sky in his voice, and the other walked with poetry in his mind. This Centre will light up the spirit of the youth like never before.”
As the world prepares to commemorate Bhupen Hazarika’s 100th birth anniversary, the Centre stands as a bold initiative to continue its mission—fusing empathy with intellect, melody with message, and education with expression. The university has invited students, artists, and thinkers to join this evolving creative journey, where the arts are not just taught but lived.
