North Liberty Higher Secondary School celebrates silver jubilee with thanksgiving and felicitation ceremony

North Liberty Higher Secondary School (NLHSS), one of West Jaintia Hills’ most renowned educational institutions, celebrated its Silver Jubilee with a Thanksgiving-cum-Felicitation Ceremony at its new campus in Mookyrdup on June 6.
The event, marking 25 years of academic service since the school’s inception in 2000, honoured students, faculty, and community members who have contributed to its growth. Chief Guest T.R. Laloo, Director of Accreditation and Controller of Examinations, MBOSE, and Guest of Honour Pastor Khadarbor Rapsang of Mawlai Nonglum Church of Christ graced the function. Special invitees included David Kharsati, National Executive Member of AIOCD and President of the Meghalaya Health Care Association.
Principal B Richard Uriah, a founding member, recalled the school’s humble beginnings and paid tribute to the support from parents, elders, and the Dorbar Shnong Mookyrdup. He acknowledged headman (L) R Riang Tongper for issuing the first NOC and offering early guidance that helped secure the land for expansion.
A highlight of the event was the felicitation of students who passed the HSSLC exams in the Arts and Science streams, including state rank holders. Mendelson Langstang, a Science student, was specially honoured for securing an All India Rank of 424 in JEE Advanced 2025. Past MBOSE toppers from the school were also recognised.
In his address, Chief Guest T.R. Laloo urged students to cultivate gratitude not just as a feeling, but as a way of life. He emphasized the importance of valuing relationships—with parents, teachers, and community—and encouraged students to build character through discipline, honesty, and humility. Laloo highlighted that success comes through consistent effort and small acts of responsibility, such as helping at home or respecting elders. He reminded students to treasure the strong support system found in their local Dorbar Shnong and community, which stands in contrast to the isolation often seen in bigger cities. “The more you practice thankfulness, the more blessings you will find,” he said.

The cultural programme showcased student talent through singing, dancing, and recitation. Mementoes were presented to teachers, support staff, and contributors from across sectors, reflecting the school’s inclusive approach to success.
Founded with faith and community resolve, NLHSS has grown into a beacon of quality education in West Jaintia Hills. With a motto, “We Know the Lord Will Find a Way,” the school looks forward to future milestones, stronger partnerships, and continued service to students and society.
