Minister slams national media for branding Meghalaya as ‘crime prone state’

Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Friday slammed the national media for branding Meghalaya as a ‘crime prone state’ and said the matter will be taken up at the appropriate level.
This came a day after one of the national dailies branded Meghalaya as “crime prone” while reporting about the missing of the tourist couple from Madhya Pradesh, while they were on a honeymoon in Sohra, known for its famous tourist spots.
“It (one of the national dailies) has dubbed Meghalaya as a crime prone state but we are not surprised because the national media, a big section of it, has always had these bias against the North East but we will take this up at the appropriate level,” Lyngdoh told reporters.
“Yesterday when I was at a programme where we had the parasailing contest for the past five days all the luminaries who attended were from various parts of the country and they said that they have not noticed a state which is as responsible and as clean and as peaceful as Meghalaya. So, it is really unfortunate but then again, this just shows the bias that they have against us,” he stated.
