    The MDA-2.0 Govt has come up with a new full form for MCH as Mother and Child Health Hospital instead of Maternal & Child Health (MCH).

    This new full form of MCH formalized by the MDA 2.0 Govt was mentioned in black and white in the budget speech of the Govt presented by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday.

    Sangma informed “The Mother and Child Hospital at Jowai and a 100-bedded hospital in Mawkyrwat have been established. The construction of 19 new health facilities is at different stages of completion.”

    He also said that the 100-bedded integrated health complex at Baljek, West Garo Hills will be completed by 2024.

    The Chief Minister apprised that the 50-bedded ‘Tura Maternity and Child Hospital’ shall be expanded to 100 beds during 2023-24.

    Sangma informed the 90-bedded cancer wing in the Shillong Civil Hospital was made functional this financial year. He also said the radio oncology system will also be set up by the end of 2023 to further augment our capacity in the fight against cancer.

    “We will also set up a cancer wing in Tura Civil Hospital,” he added.

    The construction of 78 new sub-centers will be completed by the end of 2023 at a cost of about Rs 43 crore, the Chief Minister informed.

    He said that the Govt will set up 31 new urban health centers during the next financial year while the government is upgrading 20 out of the existing 31 community health centers as first referral units during 2023-24.

    To further strengthen these centers, Sangma said they are training groups of doctors and medical professionals.

    “We are committed to establishing medical colleges in the State,” Chief Minister said the physical progress of the Tura Medical College is about 40% and they are taking steps to fast track its construction.

    He also informed the proposal for setting up a medical college in Shillong in PPP mode is being actively considered and they expect to initiate this project in 2023-24.
