KSU to hold anti-drug rally in Mawkyrwat
SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has decided to hold an anti-drug rally-cum-public meeting at Mawkyrwat, district headquarter of South West Khasi Hills on April 25.
General Secretary of the KSU Mawkyrwat Circle Rutherford Lyngdoh in a statement issued here on Wednesday said the objective of the rally is to make people aware about the ills of drug abuse, which has become a menace in the district.
“We have decided to hold the rally after seeing that many youths have been affected due to drug addiction,” he said.
Lyngdoh informed that the rally will start from the office of the Mawkyrwat C&RD Block junction to Mawkyrwat market, where the public meeting will be held.
Stating that the union is viewing the problem as a matter of serious concern, the KSU leader also appealed to all the people including parents, students, NGO activists and others to join hand in combatting against this menace by attending the rally.
Lyngdoh further said that the Union also seeks to pressurize the concerned state authorities to address the issue which has become a big social problem in the state.
“We also warned people who are supporting drug peddlers financially and also the drug peddlers who are luring young innocent people into such addiction,” he said.
