In a bold display of inter-agency synergy and disaster preparedness, Exercise Raahat, a joint initiative by the Indian Army’s Spear Corps Engineers and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), concluded today at Rangapahar Military Station, Nagaland. Held from May 13 to 15, the exercise was designed to fine-tune disaster relief operations ahead of the monsoon season.

Over three days, the Army and NDRF combined their tactical experience and technical expertise to run a comprehensive disaster response simulation. The focus: sharpen coordination, integrate cutting-edge equipment, and enhance real-time decision-making.

May 13 and 14 were dedicated to rigorous planning and war-gaming. Mixed teams dissected real-world scenarios, developed adaptive strategies, and explored innovative solutions through case studies and interactive group discussions.

The exercise culminated on May 15 with a Lecture Cum Demonstration. Army Sappers showcased advanced engineering and rescue equipment, simulating swift rescue operations and medical aid delivery. The NDRF demonstrated its specialized tools and response techniques, reinforcing its capability to handle high-risk emergencies. Flood Relief Columns from various Spear Corps units also participated, underscoring a robust framework for multi-agency collaboration.

Addressing the participants, Lt Gen Abhijit S Pendharkar, GOC, Spear Corps, commended the professionalism on display and stressed the importance of technology, training, and teamwork. He emphasized that exercises like Raahat are critical to building faster, smarter, and more unified responses to disasters.

With monsoons looming, Exercise Raahat signals a major leap forward in India’s disaster management capabilities—built not just on drills, but on real trust and readiness between forces that protect and serve.
