ECI official visits Meghalaya, emphasizes need to ensure no voter is left behind

The Principal Secretary, Election Commission of India Malay Mallick who is in charge of Meghalaya made a two-day visit to the state to discuss on various matters relating to the electoral rolls, polling stations, EVM & VVPAT warehouse etc.
On the first day of his visit, a meeting was held with the district election officer (DEO) Ri Bhoi District along with the electoral registration officers (EROs), assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs), BLO-Supervisors and booth level officers (BLOs).
He also inspected the EVM & VVPAT warehouse located the district headquarter at Nongpoh.
On the second day of his visit, a meeting was held at the additional secretariat with the chief electoral officer Dr BDR Tiwari and interacted with the election team of the state.
During the meeting, the Meghalaya CEO highlighted that there are 3551 polling stations and the total number of electors is 2290854 (1129482 males, 1161366 females and 6 third gender) in the state.
The average number of electors per polling station is 645, however there are few polling stations which have more than 1200 electors per polling station and these polling stations will require rationalisation and create new polling station.
The principal secretary, ECI also highlighted the importance of deleting the names of dead electors from the electoral roll and also to enroll the names of eligible electors so that no voter is left behind.
He also visited the newly renovated & relocated rooms of the election department twhich was earlier distributed in different blocks of the Meghalaya secretariat building and now shifted to the same location at the Meghalaya secretariat additional building.
He interacted with the officers and staff of the department and expressed his contentment that the rooms of the officers and staff are adequately furnished to enhance the work culture in the department and increase the work productivity.
After the meeting with the CEO and state election team, he inspected few polling station around the city. He also held a meeting with the additional deputy commissioner (election), East Khasi Hills district along with the EROs, AEROs, BLO-Supervisors and BLOs, supervisors and also inspected the EVM & VVPAT warehouse in Shillong.
