SHILLONG: The opposition Congress on Saturday took out a protest march against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) and misrule of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.

The march from Congress Bhavan to Khyndailad point was participated by party leaders and workers.

Members also carried placards which read -“CAB is communally motivated Bill”, “BJP kills democracy”, “March to save economy” among other slogans.

Speaking to reporters, Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief Dr Celestine Lyngdoh said the Congress is organizing agitational programmes in the different states to protest against the misrule by the BJP.

“If you look at the Indian economy, it is disheartening to see that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country has seen a major declined at 5 percent,” he said.

In term of the growing unemployment among educated youths, Lyngdoh said that the situation is becoming worse according the National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO).

“This was despite the big promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has spent huge amount of money to advertise the Make in India project. Now the person spearheading this campaign is totally silent about this. Despite his frequent visit abroad, yet the Make in India project has no takers, it has failed tremendously,” he said.

Lyngdoh further slammed the Central government for the increasing cases related to suicide by farmers and said, “This government has promised so many things but failed to deliver.”

Meanwhile, the MPCC chief said that the party will continue to oppose the CAB, which is designed to wipe out the indigenous tribes in the North East region. “We may not have the numbers but we will fight against the evil design of the BJP through the CAB,” he stated.
