    One Bangladeshi National was arrested along with two residents of Ichamati Village under East Khasi Hills District who facilitated his movement from India to Bangladesh or vice versa on May 24.

    Police said based on source information, Sohra PS mobile patrol conducted a Naka in the evening and at about 4pm, tried to stop a silver coloured Maruti A Star vehicle number AS 01 AP 0928. Police said that the vehicle however jumped the naka and was pursued and apprehended near Seven Sisters Falls viewpoint.

    Police said that the driver and occupants of the vehicle were brought to Sohra PS where it was ascertained that one of the occupants was a Bangladeshi national namely Robiul Islam (32 years) R/o Tengra Khali, Paderhat, Pirojpur, Bangladesh. He is working as an Electrician in Bangalore and wanted to go to Bangladesh. It appears he has been using the route regularly.  

    Police said that two touts who ferried him were also apprehended namely Sujit Hajong (32 years) R/o Ichamati Bazaar, East Khasi Hills and Ravi Singh (38 years R/o Ichamati Bazaar, East Khasi Hills. They had facilitated his movement.

    Interrogation is on to ascertain more information. A case under The Foreigners Act is being taken up.
